I used the Outlook 365 toggle to test out the next version of Outlook, but I quickly realized that it lacked some things I depended on, so I went back to using Outlook 365. However, I’ve heard that Office 365’s Outlook will soon be replaced with the new Outlook. It’s also not, or won’t be, an option in Outlook, I’ve heard. Is there someone who can confirm the exact fate of Outlook 365?
Hi Steve, thanks for reaching out.
To start with, this is a public user-to-user assistance forum, just to clear things up. As fellow users, we assist other users. We are not employed by Microsoft.
Initially, the Mail, Calendar, and People programs in Windows 10/11 have been replaced with the “new Outlook”. It does not take the place of the Outlook desktop application, which is a component of Office and is also known as Outlook Classic.
Will it eventually take the place of Outlook desktop? If so, it will be many, many years from now. With decades of development, the Outlook desktop program is incredibly feature-rich and unlikely to transition to an online interface quickly. Although no one in the forum can speak for Microsoft, even if someone was aware of the company’s long-term goals.
