Outlook folders missing after back up to One Drive
I backed up to OneDrive. Everything went well and I can acces all files EXCEPT my Outlook personl folders. I found them on OneDrive and tried to drag and drop them back into Outlook. I get a message saying this operation can only be performed in Outlook. Frustrating because they have dissapeared from Outlook. So, how can I recover my folders?
Hi Emily, thanks for reaching out.
To restore your Outlook personal folders from OneDrive and put them back into your Outlook application, you can follow these steps:
1. Open Outlook and click on the “File” tab in the top left corner.
2. Click on “Account Settings” and then select “Account Settings” again from the drop-down menu.
3. In the “Account Settings” window, click on the “Data Files” tab.
4. Click on the “Add” button and select “Outlook Data File (.pst)” from the drop-down menu.
5. Browse to the location where you saved your personal folders data file on OneDrive and select it.
6. Choose a name for the data file and click “OK”.
7. The personal folders data file will now appear in the list of data files in the “Data Files” tab.
8. You can now access your personal folders in Outlook by expanding the data file in the navigation pane on the left side of the screen.
Here’s another alternative steps:
1.Open Outlook and go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
2.In the Import and Export Wizard, choose Import from another program or file, then click Next.
3.Choose Outlook Data File (.pst), then click Next.
4.Browse to the .pst file you just restored from OneDrive. Choose options for duplicates according to your preference, then click Next.
5.Select the account to which you want to import, ensure Include subfolders is checked, and choose where to import the data into (usually into the same folder), then click Finish.
Please note that it is not recommended to store your Outlook data files on OneDrive or any other cloud storage service as it can cause synchronization issues and data corruption. It is best to store your data files locally on your computer or on a network drive wherein it is not being synced or backup by OneDrive.
